This formula combines herbs of very bitter and very cold nature, and represents the treatment method of "directly subduing [fire] with bitter cold [herbs]." Its action is focused and forceful, directly draining fire from all three Burners.
o Vomiting of blood, nosebleed (heat forcing blood to move recklessly).
o Outbreak of macules (purple spots appearing on the skin), fever with diarrhea (damp-heat dysentery).
o Surgical conditions such as sores, ulcers, and toxic swellings (blazing fire toxin with qi and blood stagnation).
o Red tongue with yellow coating.
o This formula is very bitter and very cold, and can readily transform into dryness and damage yin; it should not be taken long-term.
o Absolutely contraindicated in Spleen-Stomach cold deficiency, presenting with cold abdominal pain, loose stools, and pale tongue with white coating.
o Not suitable for use alone in yin deficiency with effulgent fire.
o Use with caution in pregnancy.
o Huang Lian (coptis rhizome) 9 g + Huang Qin (scutellaria root) 6 g + Huang Bai (phellodendron bark) 6 g + Zhi Zi (gardenia fruit) 9 g = 30 g.
o 30 g raw herb ÷ 5 = 6.0 g granules.
o One dose daily, dissolved in warm water and taken in 2 divided doses, about 3 g per dose.
o Extremely important note: this formula is a potent fire-draining preparation. It must be stopped as soon as the condition resolves and should not be taken long-term. Please strictly follow the practitioner's instructions; the practitioner will determine the duration of use according to the severity of the fire toxin.
本方集大苦大寒之品于一方，是“苦寒直折”治法的代表方，药专力猛，直泻三焦之火。
o 吐血，衄血（热迫血妄行）。
o 发斑（皮肤出现紫色斑点），身热下利（湿热痢疾）。
o 外科痈疡疔毒（火毒炽盛，气血壅滞）。
o 舌红苔黄。
o 本方大苦大寒，易化燥伤阴，不宜久服。
o 脾胃虚寒者绝对禁用。 症见腹冷痛、便溏、舌淡苔白。
o 阴虚火旺者不宜单纯使用。
o 孕妇慎用。
o 黄连9g + 黄芩6g + 黄柏6g + 栀子9g = 30克。
o 30克生药 ÷ 5 = 6.0克颗粒。
o 每日一剂，分2次温水冲服，每次约3克。
o 极度重要提示：本方为泻火峻剂，务必中病即止，不可久服。请严格遵医嘱，医师会根据火毒的轻重决定疗程。
