4. Granule conversion and dose

Calculation of the total raw herb weight in the original formula:

Zhi Chuan Wu (processed aconite root) 6 g + Zhi Cao Wu (processed wild aconite root) 6 g + Di Long (earthworm) 9 g + Zhi Ru Xiang (processed frankincense) 5 g + Zhi Mo Yao (processed myrrh) 5 g + Dan Nan Xing (bile arisaema) 6 g = 37 g.

Converted to 5:1 granules:

37 g raw herb ÷ 5 = 7.4 g granules.

Granule dose: Dissolve in warm water and take twice daily, morning and evening, about 3.5 g per dose. (This formula is highly toxic and must be used strictly under a practitioner's guidance; do not exceed the prescribed dose.)

5. Cautions and clinical notes

• [Contraindications]:
  1. This formula is drying and fierce in nature, and Chuan Wu and Cao Wu are highly toxic; it is therefore absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy.
  2. It should be avoided in those with yin deficiency with heat, in weak and frail individuals, and in those sensitive to aconitine.
• [Safety warnings]:
  1. The Chuan Wu and Cao Wu in the formula must be processed according to standard methods to reduce their toxicity, and must never be combined with Ban Xia (pinellia rhizome), Gua Lou (trichosanthes fruit), Bei Mu (fritillaria bulb), Bai Lian (ampelopsis root), or Bai Ji (bletilla rhizome). This must be ensured in the preparation of ProCare Herbs granules.
  2. If signs of aconitine toxicity appear, such as numbness of the lips, tip of the tongue, or limbs, nausea, or palpitations, stop the medication immediately and seek medical attention.
• Modern applications: Mainly used for rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic arthritis, sciatica, frozen shoulder, and injuries from falls and blows in patterns attributed to wind-cold-damp and phlegm-stasis obstructing the channels and collaterals, in patients of robust constitution.
• Duration of use: This formula is a strong, attacking preparation and should be stopped once the disorder is resolved; it should not be taken long-term. Once the pain has diminished, the formula should be adjusted.
