This formula is the representative prescription for the pattern of Stomach heat with yin deficiency, and it established the method of "clearing both qi and blood [aspects] simultaneously." Its distinguishing feature is that clearing fire and nourishing yin are applied together, with clearing fire as the principal action, nourishing yin as an assistant, and guiding heat downward as an adjunct.

Calculation of the total raw herb weight of the original formula (using a moderately high dose):
Sheng Shi Gao (gypsum) 30 g + Zhi Mu (anemarrhena rhizome) 9 g + Shu Di Huang (prepared rehmannia root) 18 g + Mai Dong (ophiopogon tuber) 6 g + Niu Xi (achyranthes root) 5 g = 68 g.
Converted to 5:1 granules:
68 g raw herbs ÷ 5 = 13.6 g of granules.
Granule dose: Dissolve in warm water and take in 2 doses, morning and evening, about 7 g per dose. (The original formula's method of administration was "taken warm or taken cold"; this method may also be used for the granules.)

[Safety warning]: In preparing ProCare Herbs granules, the herbs have been processed under standardized methods. Note that Shu Di Huang in this formula is relatively cloying; if abdominal distension occurs after taking it in those with poor Spleen-Stomach transportation and transformation function, the dose should be reduced as appropriate or a physician consulted.
Modern applications: Mainly used for gingivitis, acute oral ulcers, diabetes mellitus, trigeminal neuralgia, and glossitis, in patterns identified as blazing Stomach heat with Kidney yin insufficiency.
Duration of use: This formula is intended for therapeutic use, not for long-term nourishing tonification. It should be discontinued once the disorder resolves; once Stomach fire gradually clears and yin deficiency is restored, the prescription should be adjusted or discontinued, and it should not be taken over a prolonged period.
本方是治疗胃热阴虚证的代表方剂，开创了“气血两清”之法。其配伍特点是清火与滋阴并行，但以清火为主，佐以滋阴，兼以引热下行。

原方生药总重量计算（以中等偏上剂量计）：
生石膏30g + 知母9g + 熟地黄18g + 麦冬6g + 牛膝5g = 68克。
换算成5:1颗粒剂：
68克生药 ÷ 5 = 13.6克颗粒剂。
颗粒剂服用剂量： 分早晚2次温水冲服，每次约7克。（原方用法为“温服或冷服”，颗粒剂亦可采用此法）。

【安全警示】： 普康本草颗粒剂在制备过程中，已对药材进行标准化处理。需注意，方中熟地黄较为滋腻，脾胃运化功能不佳者服用后若出现脘腹胀满，应酌情减量或咨询医师。
现代应用： 主要用于牙龈炎、急性口腔溃疡、糖尿病、三叉神经痛、舌炎等，辨证属胃热炽盛，肾阴不足者。
疗程： 本方为治疗之剂，非长久滋补之方。应中病即止，待胃火渐清，阴虚得复后，即需调整方药或停药，不宜久服。
