4. Granule conversion and dose

Calculation of the total raw herb weight in the original formula:

Tao Ren (peach kernel) 12 g + Hong Hua (safflower) 9 g + Chi Shao (red peony root) 6 g + Chuan Xiong (chuanxiong rhizome) 5 g + Chuan Niu Xi (achyranthes root) 9 g + Dang Gui (Chinese angelica root) 9 g + Sheng Di (dried rehmannia root) 9 g + Chai Hu (bupleurum root) 3 g + Zhi Ke (bitter orange) 6 g + Jie Geng (platycodon root) 5 g + Gan Cao (licorice root) 6 g = 79 g.

Conversion to 5:1 granules:

79 g raw herb ÷ 5 = 15.8 g granules.

Granule dose: Dissolve in warm water and take in 2 doses, morning and evening, about 8 g per dose.

5. Cautions and clinical notes

[Contraindications]:

1. This formula has strong action to invigorate the blood and dispel stasis; it is absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy, as it may cause miscarriage.
2. It is contraindicated in those without a blood stasis pattern. Use with caution in those with weak constitution and qi-blood deficiency, or combine with a supplementing formula.
3. Use with caution during menstruation, to avoid causing excessive menstrual flow.
4. Contraindicated in those with a bleeding tendency (such as gastrointestinal bleeding, the acute phase of cerebral hemorrhage, etc.).

Modern applications: Mainly used for coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, sequelae of cerebral infarction, headache, dizziness, neurosis, insomnia, intractable hiccup, mammary hyperplasia, dysmenorrhea, and amenorrhea, where the pattern is qi stagnation with blood stasis, particularly when the affected site is the chest and rib-side.

Duration of use: This formula is for therapeutic use, not for tonification, and should be discontinued once the condition resolves. Please follow strictly the duration of use directed by a TCM practitioner, and adjust or discontinue the formula once the blood stasis symptoms improve.
