4. Granule conversion and dose

Calculation of the total raw herb weight in the original formula:

Wu Mei (mume fruit) 30 g + Xi Xin (asarum herb) 3 g + Gan Jiang (dried ginger rhizome) 9 g + Gui Zhi (cinnamon twig) 6 g + Fu Zi (prepared aconite root) 6 g + Huang Lian (coptis rhizome) 6 g + Huang Bai (phellodendron bark) 6 g + Dang Gui (Chinese angelica root) 6 g + Ren Shen (ginseng root) 6 g + Hua Jiao (Sichuan pepper) 5 g = 83 g.

Granule dose: Take dissolved in warm water twice daily, morning and evening, about 6 g per dose. (When abdominal pain occurs, an additional dose may be taken as appropriate.)

5. Cautions and clinical notes

• Contraindications:
  1. This formula is designed for a pattern of intermingled cold and heat with already-depleted righteous qi. It is not suitable for patterns of pure heat or pure cold.
  2. Use with caution in pregnant women.
• Safety warning: Fu Zi in this formula is toxic and Xi Xin is slightly toxic; when preparing ProCare Herbs granules, it must be ensured that the herbs undergo standardized processing, with dosage strictly controlled.
• Modern applications: The use of this formula now extends well beyond expelling roundworms, and it is widely used for chronic colitis, chronic dysentery, diabetic gastroparesis, menopausal syndrome, autonomic dysfunction, and certain cases of neurogenic headache, where the pattern presents as intermingled cold and heat with qi and blood vacuity.
• Duration of use: This is a regulating formula that requires a sustained course of use to harmonize cold and heat and support the righteous while expelling pathogens; it may be taken as directed by a practitioner.
