利肝汤

• Jin Qian Cao (lysimachia herb): 62g × 51.61% = 32g
• Zhu Dan Zhi (pig bile): 62g × 48.39% = 30g
• Total raw herb weight: 32g + 30g = 62 g

Converted to 5:1 granules:

62 g raw herb ÷ 5 = 12.4 g granules.

Granule dose: Take in 2-3 doses dissolved in warm water.

• Twice daily, about 6 g per dose.
• Three times daily, about 4 g per dose.

5. Cautions and clinical notes

[Contraindications]:

1. This formula is intensely bitter and cold, and can easily damage Spleen-Stomach yang qi. It is absolutely contraindicated in Spleen-Stomach yang deficiency with poor appetite, loose stools, and aversion to cold.
2. Absolutely contraindicated in cold-damp yin jaundice (dull, smoky-yellow discoloration).
3. Use with caution in pregnancy.

[Safety warnings]:

1. Stop once the disease resolves; do not use long-term: This formula is a potent remedy for acute, excess-pattern conditions. Once jaundice subsides and signs of damp-heat markedly diminish, discontinue or adjust the formula immediately. Do not overuse it, so as not to damage the righteous qi.
2. Notes on modern application: In modern preparations, pig bile may be present as freeze-dried powder or another form; its source and preparation must be verified as safe and compliant.

Modern application: Mainly used for acute icteric infectious hepatitis, cholecystitis, and cholelithiasis, in patterns of blazing Liver-Gallbladder damp-heat.

Duration of use: This formula acts swiftly and forcefully; it is usually taken for 3-7 days. The condition should be closely monitored; if symptoms show no clear improvement or other complications arise, stop the formula immediately and seek medical attention.
