金锁固精汤

• Conversion to 5:1 granules:

o 66 g raw herb ÷ 5 = 13.2 g granules.

• Recommended dose and method of administration:

o One dose daily, taken in two portions dissolved in warm salted water.

o It is recommended to take on an empty stomach or before meals, so that the medicinal action reaches the lower burner directly.

o Each portion is 6.5 g.

5. Cautions and clinical notes

1. [Contraindication]: This formula is inclined toward astringing and consolidating; therefore it should not be used for seminal emission or vaginal discharge caused by internal effulgence of ministerial fire or damp-heat in the lower burner. If there is short, reddish urination, bitter taste in the mouth, yellow greasy tongue coating, and similar symptoms, it must not be mistakenly used.
2. Dietary cautions: Sexual activity should be restrained during treatment, and spicy, stimulating foods should be avoided.
3. Modern applications: This formula is commonly used for sexual neurological dysfunction, chronic prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, and similar conditions of the kidney-deficiency-with-failure-to-secure type, as well as for vaginal discharge in women and postpartum urinary incontinence.
4. Duration of use: This formula addresses the branch (symptoms) rather than the root; once seminal emission and spermatorrhea are brought under control, treatment should shift to tonifying the root, or this formula should be combined with kidney-tonifying herbs.
