4. Granule conversion and dose

• Calculation of the original formula's total raw herb weight (estimated from the common patent-medicine ratio):
  • Guang Huo Xiang (agastache), Zi Su Ye (perilla leaf), Fu Ling (poria), Bai Bian Dou (white hyacinth bean), Shan Zha (hawthorn fruit), Liu Shen Qu (medicated leaven), Mai Ya (germinated barley), Mu Gua (chaenomeles fruit), Hou Po (magnolia bark), Chen Pi (aged tangerine peel), Zhi Ke (bitter orange), Xiang Ru (elsholtzia), Jie Geng (platycodon root), Mu Xiang (costus root), Gan Cao (licorice root), and others, with a total raw herb weight of about 150 g.
• Recommended dose and method of administration:
  • One dose daily, taken in two portions dissolved in warm water.
  • Recommended to be taken after meals.
  • Each dose is 3 g.
  • Or strictly follow the product package insert or a physician's instructions.

5. Cautions and clinical notes

1. [Contraindications]: This formula is pungent, warm, and aromatic-drying in nature; it is contraindicated in cases of yin deficiency with effulgent fire and in wind-heat common cold. It is unsuitable for those presenting with dry mouth, sore throat, red tongue, and yellow coating.
2. Dietary restrictions: While taking this medicine, avoid raw, cold, greasy, and hard-to-digest foods.
3. Modern applications: This formula is widely used for summer common cold, acute gastroenteritis, and indigestion of the pattern of external cold with internal dampness complicated by food stagnation.
4. Duration of use: This formula treats the symptoms and should be discontinued once the disorder resolves; it is not suitable for prolonged use. Discontinue once symptoms improve.
