• Tongue: Dark tongue body, or with petechiae; greasy coating (white greasy or yellow greasy).
• Pulse: Wiry-slippery or wiry-choppy.

4. Granule conversion and dose

Dosage of each herb:

• Bai Fu Zi (typhonium rhizome): 38.5 g
• Gou Teng (uncaria stem with hooks): 30 g
• Jiang Can (stiff silkworm): 15 g
• Quan Xie (scorpion): 10 g
• Dan Nan Xing (bile arisaema): 10 g
• Shi Chang Pu (acorus rhizome): 10 g
• Yuan Zhi (polygala root): 10 g
• Qiang Huo (notopterygium rhizome): 10 g
• Di Long (earthworm): ≈ 10 g
• Mu Xiang (costus root): 5 g
• Total raw herb weight: 38.5+30+15+10+10+10+10+10+10+5 = 148.5 g

Converted to 5:1 granules:

148.5 g raw herbs ÷ 5 = 29.7 g granules.

Granule dose: Dissolve in warm water and take in 2-3 doses.

• Twice daily, about 15 g per dose.
• Three times daily, about 10 g per dose.

5. Cautions and clinical notes

[Contraindications]:

1. Absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy, because Bai Fu Zi, Quan Xie and other herbs in this formula are toxic agents that invigorate blood and unblock the network vessels.
2. Use with caution in sequelae of stroke due to qi deficiency with blood stasis (manifesting as fatigue, shortness of breath, pale tongue).
3. Not suitable for use alone in yin deficiency with ascendant yang, or internal stirring of Liver wind.

[Safety warnings]:

1. Bai Fu Zi and Quan Xie in this formula are both toxic, and Dan Nan Xing is also slightly toxic. Although ProCare Herbs granules undergo strict processing and standardization during preparation, the practitioner's instructions must still be strictly followed, and the dose must not be exceeded.
2. This formula is strong and fierce in action, intended as a therapeutic formula to be stopped once the condition resolves. Once symptoms improve, the prescription should be adjusted to a milder, more moderating formula; this formula should not be taken over a long period.

Modern applications: Mainly used for facial nerve palsy, sequelae of cerebrovascular accident (recovery phase of cerebral infarction or cerebral hemorrhage), trigeminal neuralgia, and migraine, in patterns identified as wind-phlegm obstructing the network vessels with the orifices blocked and the spirit disturbed.

Duration of use: For the acute phase or early recovery phase, usually taken for 2-4 weeks. Closely observe changes in the condition and adjust the treatment plan promptly.
