4. Granule conversion and dose

Calculation of the total raw herb weight of the original formula:

Wu Zhu Yu (evodia fruit) 9 g + Gui Zhi (cinnamon twig) 6 g + Dang Gui (Chinese angelica root) 6 g + Chuan Xiong (Sichuan lovage rhizome) 6 g + Bai Shao (white peony root) 6 g + E Jiao (donkey-hide gelatin) 6 g + Mai Dong (ophiopogon root) 9 g + Mu Dan Pi (moutan bark) 6 g + Ren Shen (ginseng) 6 g + Zhi Gan Cao (honey-fried licorice root) 6 g + Ban Xia (pinellia rhizome) 6 g + Sheng Jiang (fresh ginger) 6 g = 72 g.

Conversion to 5:1 granules:

72 g raw herbs ÷ 5 = 14.4 g granules.

Granule dose: Dissolve in warm water and take in 3 doses, about 5 g per dose.

5. Cautions and clinical notes

• [Contraindications]:
  1. This formula is suitable for patterns of deficiency-cold with stasis. It should not be used for irregular menstruation caused purely by blood heat or damp-heat.
  2. Use with caution in pregnant women.
• [Safety warning]: Wu Zhu Yu in this formula is slightly toxic, and Ban Xia is toxic; when preparing ProCare Herbs granules, it must be ensured that the herbs have undergone standardized processing, and dosage must be strictly controlled.
• Modern applications: Widely used for dysfunctional uterine bleeding, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, dysmenorrhea, infertility, and menopausal syndrome where the pattern is deficiency-cold of the Chong and Ren vessels with static blood obstruction.
• Duration of use: This formula is for regulating conditions and may be taken for a certain duration according to the menstrual cycle or as directed by a practitioner. When used to regulate infertility, it needs to be taken consistently over a long period.
