4. Granule conversion and dose

Assuming a total raw herb weight of 25 g per dose (for ease of calculation), the dosage of each herb is as follows:

• Shan Zha (hawthorn fruit): 25g × 80.00% = 20g
• He Ye (lotus leaf): 25g × 12.00% = 3g
• Jue Ming Zi (semen cassiae): 25g × 4.00% = 1g
• Zhi He Shou Wu (prepared polygoni multiflori radix): 25g × 4.00% = 1g
• Total raw herb weight: 20+3+1+1 = 25 g

Converted to 5:1 granules:

25 g raw herbs ÷ 5 = 5.0 g of granules.

Granule dosage:

• Standard method: 3 times daily, dissolved in warm water, about 2 g per dose.
• Or according to the instructions: 2-3 times daily, 1.5-2.5 g per dose.

5. Cautions and clinical notes

[Contraindications]:

1. Use with caution in patients with Spleen-Stomach yang deficiency-cold presenting with reduced appetite, loose stools, and cold pain in the abdomen, because the sour-astringent nature of Shan Zha and the cold nature of Jue Ming Zi in this formula may aggravate these symptoms.
2. Use with caution in pregnant women.

[Safety warnings]:

1. Although Zhi He Shou Wu in this formula has a tonifying action, there have been reports of hepatotoxicity risk associated with it. Only properly processed material must be used, and it must not be taken in excess or over a long term. Although ProCare Herbs granules are processed, use should still follow a practitioner's guidance.
2. This formula is a regulating preparation, and its lipid-lowering effect is relatively slow to appear. In cases of hyperlipidemia, comprehensive treatment under a physician's guidance should be pursued; this formula cannot fully replace mainstream lipid-lowering medications.

Modern applications: Mainly used as an adjunct in hyperlipidemia, fatty liver, and obesity, as well as in the adjunctive regulation of coronary heart disease and hypertension, in patterns identified as food stagnation with internal obstruction by phlegm and stasis.

Duration of use: This formula may serve as an adjunctive regulating preparation for chronic conditions and should be taken consistently for a certain duration (e.g., 1-3 months) before effects become apparent. Blood lipids and liver function should be checked periodically during use.
