4. Granule conversion and dose

Calculation of the total raw herb weight of the original formula:

Stir-fried Bai Zhu (atractylodes rhizome) 30 g + stir-fried Shan Yao (dioscorea) 30 g + Ren Shen (ginseng) 6 g + Cang Zhu (atractylodes rhizome, black) 9 g + wine-processed Bai Shao (white peony root) 15 g + wine-processed Che Qian Zi (plantago seed) 9 g + Chai Hu (bupleurum root) 2 g + black-fried Jing Jie Sui (schizonepeta spike) 2 g + Chen Pi (aged tangerine peel) 2 g + Gan Cao (licorice root) 3 g = 108 g.

Converted to 5:1 granules:

108 g raw herbs ÷ 5 = 21.6 g granules.

Granule dose: Dissolve in warm water and take twice daily, morning and evening, about 11 g per dose.

5. Cautions and clinical notes

• Contraindications:
  1. This formula is used for vaginal discharge due to Spleen deficiency with Liver qi stagnation and turbid dampness pouring downward. It is contraindicated for discharge due to damp-heat pouring downward (yellow, thick, and foul-smelling discharge) or discharge due to Kidney yin deficiency.
  2. Use with caution when the discharge is red, or resembles but is not blood, and continues without stopping.
• Characteristics: This formula is a specific formula for vaginal discharge. Its key diagnostic points are discharge that is white, thin and watery, odorless, profuse, and continuous, accompanied by an overall picture of Spleen deficiency.
• Modern applications: mainly used for vaginitis, cervicitis, and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease where the pattern is Spleen deficiency with Liver qi stagnation and turbid dampness pouring downward.
• Duration of use: This formula is a regulating formula and must be taken for a certain period before its effects become apparent. Dietary regulation should also be observed, avoiding raw, cold, and greasy foods.
